Keeping your word to God is most important…Have you kept your word to God…yes or no?
Have you kept your word like Jeptha…yes or no?
Jdg 11:30-40 KJV And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands, 31 Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD'S, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering. 32 So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands. 33 And he smote them from Aroer, even till thou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel. 34 And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter. 35 And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back. 36 And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the children of Ammon. 37 And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my fellows. 38 And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains. 39 And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel, 40 That the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
Jephtha vowed a vow and his daughter when she heard what it was…realized it was her death…then she accepted the fate of the vow she did not make…she made herself a willing sacrifice for God and His glory…when you make a vow to God and God gives His part…then it is life or death to keep the vow…it is better to make no vows than to make a vow…make your promises few but keep them faithful…a vow is you and God…never break a vow…as King David said… In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honors them that fear the LORD. He that swears to his own hurt, and changes not…listen Jesus said it is better to not take a vow or make a promise but be the type who is known for his yes is yes and his no is no…you can always say no then change your mind or you can always say yes then change your mind…but you cannot change a vow it must be kept at all cost…listen to what Jesus said…
Jesus said make no oaths but be the character your yes is yes and your no is no…
Mat 5:33-37 KJV Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: 34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: 35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. 36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. 37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil…
Jesus took an oath before God when on trial…it is not wrong to make a statement affirming God as your witness…
Mat 26:63-68 KJV But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. 64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. 65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy. 66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death. 67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, 68 Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?
We are not to forbid marriage when people have already said vows…
1Ti 4:1-3 KJV Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth…
What is written…it is a doctrine of a devil to forbid marriage…if vows have been said then we can do nothing but leave it a conscience matter…I had a guy in my congregation said he was married and it was not his first but had said vows…I did not pry…but put the weight of the matter on him and his wife…saying you are welcome and if your willing to burn in hell by lying about a vow…and marriage that’s up to you…I will not pry and accept your word before the whole congregation I said it…the congregation understood they could be lying but were warned they would be cast into hell if they were…that family became one productive member… we cannot ask people to break their vows…how many adulteries have been committed with no proof…adultery is committed in secret?
Vows should never be broken…have you kept your word to God today…yes or no? Have you told the truth today…yes or no?
Father help us remember and keep our vows before You without blame…in Jesus of Nazareth’s name amen.
